Rediscover Yourself in Transylvania
In Romania I rediscover myself. Romania encouraged me to look at life and with fresh eyes, to see that we, as Romanians, live in a splendid garden with plateaus, hills and plains, with network of rivers and lakes. Green and round, near the most gentle of its neighbors, Black Sea, Romania stands out in the south east of Europe with the Carpathian Mountains, the Lower Danube, the Delta mouth with a unique in the world wetland. For me Romania is one of the most beautiful place in the world.
Transylvania is traditional, simple, profoundly spiritual land of magic and wonder, one place in Romania that’s closest to my heart. I discovered this place on the most divers occasions, from simple tourist expeditions in nature.
This land in Central Romania, as a Divine Creation in its mysteries, has something magical, spectacular and original. With dozens of superb trails, caves, spectacular waterfalls and lakes, Transylvania is one of the most charming place, with villages barely touched by modernity. With houses surrounded by crossed forests, scattered over the hills, form a charming rustic picture, this land was blessed by fabulous landscapes, large valleys and impressive wild mountains that arise before you.
Here I was amazed by the architecture and by beauty of the fortified churches, by the lovely medieval cities with paved streets, by the most wonderful objects crafted by hand and by the welcoming, kind people, open, serious and reliable, people that find time to sit and talk, to laugh and joke.
In this place full of life and authenticity, perhaps I am most attracted by the people through villages dressed in traditional costumes, by the women that gather in houses, spinning wool and weaving colorful rugs, while talking and singing,
In this magical atmosphere in its old tradition, I rejoice myself every time I see how old traditions are kept alive and how everyone loves to beautifully celebrate such moments, how people care for animals, household and family.
I love everything about Transylvania; the picturesque villages and the country lifestyle, every tree, every window and every moment in the day by day picture, where the time seems to be different from the time I am accustomed with.
I don’t like to see the destruction of nature heritage in Romania. We are not allowed to destroy the balance of nature or to deprive those who come after us of the pleasure of enjoying clean water, fresh air and quiet forests. Nature is not asking for a lot. Our life depends on nature, from the oxygen we inhale, from the food we eat. We have some responsibilities towards our ancestors, towards the future generations to preserve and protect it.
If I could, I would establish more national parks in Romania, I would create a nationwide network of protected areas linked together with the nature, and through the information, education and the increased awareness of the general public, I will do something for the minimal care. I would establish more laws and regulations, legislative and administrative measures to protect nature from abuse, deforestation, excessive grazing, improper construction, abuse of resources and tourism vandalism.
Maybe some effort was made in this direction, but is also our responsibility to take action, so the limestone mountains will not turn into cement, the river beds into gravel and the forests into lumber. Those who will come after us will appreciate what we did; they will remember us with respect.
