Transylvania, region of Romania, hidden and embedded in the middle of wooded hills, is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, populated with the largest wildlife in Europe.
First impressions created upon arrival in Transylvania is to enter a world protected and preserved, where many villages are still alive.
Here, the children filled the streets crossed with cows, ducks, horse-drawn carts and several cars, all under the gaze of elders sit on benches in the shade. Unlike other villages in other countries, villages in the heart of Romania are still inhabited and active.
Here, in the kingdom of Dracula, the forests are the masters of these places. Despite logging and illegal hunting, in these forests, many species still living in the shadow of the large leaves of the trees. The hills and valleys resounding roar of humming bears and wolves and rural traditions and folklore are surprisingly vivid here.
Long before Dacians fortified hills of Transylvania, evidence of those times can be found at the ruins from Sarmisegetuza, on well-preserved ruins in Costesti, Blidaru, Red Stone, Capalna and Banita.
Transylvania has a rich cultural heritage. Sighisoara and Sibiu are towns with a historic center integrated in World Heritage, like many other fortified wooden churches and Dacian fortress.
Sibiu, the cultural capital of Europe in 2007, was kept intact, entirely. Many other cities such as Bistrita, Targu Mures and Aiud are preserved as medieval cities from eighteenth century, the same like Alba Iulia, Arad and Oradea.
Here you can find medieval castles like Castle Bran and Castle Corvin, baroque palaces, like Brukenthal Palace and Bánffys Palace.
Transylvania is known by association with the legendary Dracula Castle in the Carpathians and from the book by Jules Verne.
Prince of Transylvania, Vlad Tepes, inspired the British author Bram Stoker to write the famous novel Dracula. Dracula castle is located in northeast Transylvania, or northern Wallachia, the location of Vlad the Impaler’s Poenari Castle.
